Cumbria Ecumenical County

Four of our member churches are now journeying towards much closer unity. The unity they seek is a reflection of the unity of God felt and understood in the Trinity: Creator, Son and Holy Spirit.

On 27th November 2016 the leaders of the Church of England, Methodist Church, Salvation Army and United Reformed Church in Cumbria signed a Declaration of Covenant Partnership building on the Declaration of Intent signed by 3 of these denominations in 2011. The Salvation Army has moved from being a Companion Church to a full Partner in the development of Cumbria as an Ecumenical County.

Other member denominations of Churches Together in Cumbria again signed a Letter of Companionship. They also continue to seek closer ecumenical working around the county, particularly in mission.

The Growing Together Coordinating Group overseas the development of the four churches journeying together in the Ecumenical County of Cumbria. The God for All initiative for the evangelisation of Cumbria developed out of this shared journey. The Strategy Steering Group is carrying out implementation of God for All and helping churches throughout Cumbria develop together as Mission Communities.

Please pray for the work of these four denominations, and the other denominations and churches that are supporting this exciting work, as they seek a prophetic way forward for the future of their churches, and the Church at large.
